A pilot project on artificial intelligence-based telemedicine was implemented for the first time in Ukraine in Odesa.

According to Ukrinform, the Ministry of Health reported this on Facebook.

The message said, “Odessa became the first city in Ukraine where the BrainScan telemedicine pilot project was implemented. This system works on the basis of artificial intelligence and significantly accelerates the process of diagnosing brain diseases or injuries, where time is a critical factor.” .

As explained by the Ministry of Health, the neural network detects pathological changes by analyzing computerized tomography images in automatic mode. After 5 minutes of processing the image with the program, the doctor can decide on further treatment. This speeds up the process several times.

The use of artificial intelligence in the analysis of CT images of the brain within the scope of the project gave good results. Odesa’s experience of incorporating neural network in diagnosing patients is now being used in front-line Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region.

The project is implemented by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with the support of USAID Ukraine – USAID Ukraine project “Sustainable development of national health systems in Ukraine” (LHSS).

As reported by Ukrinform, a data information platform will be created in the Electronic Health System, which is a system that ensures uniform standards and uniform management of all data available in the medical field and will provide tools for their qualitative analysis. Data will be recorded in the following categories: birth rate, life expectancy; management, financing, provision of medical assistance, medical products; risk factors, motherhood, childhood, mental health, etc.
