Nine companies of the Polish Armament Group (PGZ) signed an agreement with the British MBDA to develop a new tank destroyer with the Brimstone missile. This was stated in a press release from MBDA. The agreement will allow the development and production of wheeled or tracked combat vehicles using Brimstone anti-tank guided missiles. This is a continuation of the 2019 agreement on cooperation between PGZ and British partners.
«It’s good to have partners you can rely on in difficult times. We are strengthening our cooperation with the UK defense industry led by MBDA UK. Today’s agreement is another step towards installing the latest generation Brimstone missiles in the country. As a result of Polish-British cooperation, joint offers will be made to the Polish Armed Forces and Allied forces and our companies will enter the supply chain.“, – said Sebastian Hvalek, CEO of PGZ SA.
The agreement forms the basis for further cooperation in Poland and foreign markets in the field of integration of anti-tank complexes with elements of the tank destroyer fleet module specified by the customer and the production of “Brimstone” missiles at the Polish PGZ facilities.
«We are pleased that the implementation of the tanker procurement program provides PGZ and MBDA another opportunity to further develop the already strong relationship. By deepening our cooperation around Brimstone, we will jointly support the development of Poland’s military and industrial potential and increase the strategic objectives of our companies.“- said Chris Allam, Managing Director of MBDA UK.
To strengthen its anti-tank capabilities, the Polish army has launched a program of acquiring new tank destroyers based on armored personnel carriers. In addition, the purpose of this program is to replace obsolete combat vehicles using the old Soviet-made wire-guided 9P133 “Baby” anti-tank missile system.
The contract was signed by the following companies: WZM SA, WZU SA, OBRUM sp. zoo, Jelcz sp. z oo, Rosomak SA as well as representatives of the PGZ-OTTOKAR consortium: PGZ SA (consortium leader), HSW SA, MESKO SA and WZE SA. It will be remembered that the Brimstone missile was developed by the international consortium MBDA UK for the British Armed Forces. It is equipped with an active radar homing head, which allows you to hit moving targets with great accuracy. Source
