Consumer Association in The Netherlands filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of 82,000 Dutch people against tech giant Google for “large-scale privacy violationsby “illegally collecting and processing data” from users for “its own commercial gain.”

The judicial procedure requires that Google stops continuous monitoring and sharing of personal data users through online advertising platforms and requires that to pay damages and harm to consumers from these “large-scale privacy violations.”

“Google violates Dutch and European privacy laws: collects data about users’ location and online behavior on a large scale through services and products without providing sufficient information or obtaining permission. “It then shares this data, including highly sensitive personal data about health, ethnicity and political preferences, with hundreds of parties through its advertising platform,” he says.

In addition, it also shares this data with countries outside of Europe. without user permissionexposing Dutch consumers to the risk of surveillance by foreign governments, the lawsuit says.

“Google is constantly monitoring everyone. Even when you use third-party cookies, which are invisible, they continue to collect data on other people’s websites and apps, including when you are not using their products or services. This allows Google to monitor virtually everything its users do online,” explains Ada van der Veer, president of the Privacy Advocacy Foundation.
