Sales of iPhone 12 products were suspended in France due to excessive electromagnetic radiation.
BBC reported this, Ukrinform reported.
The National Agency for Radio Frequencies (ANFR) has notified Apple that they must recall all iPhone 12s (even those already sold in the country) if they do not address the increased radiation exposure issue with a software update.
French Digital Minister said, “Apple is expected to respond within two weeks. If they do not respond, I am ready to order the recall of all iPhone 12s in circulation. This rule is the same for everyone, including digital giants.” Technologies Jean-Noel Barrot.
According to the ANFR, the device’s specific absorption rate of electromagnetic energy (SAR) is 5.74 watts per kilogram, which is above the European Union limit for a phone when held in the hand or pocket.
The SAR indicator determines the energy of the electromagnetic field released per second in the tissues of the human body. This indicator specifically measures the harmful effect of mobile phones on the individual.
Apple said it would appeal the ANFR’s decision, saying it had provided the regulator with results of its own laboratory tests and third-party tests showing the device complied with all regulations. The company also added that the iPhone 12 has been deemed to comply with regulations regarding worldwide radiation levels.
The World Health Organization had previously tried to allay concerns about radiation emitted by mobile phones and said there was no evidence that exposure to low-level electromagnetic fields was harmful to humans.
As reported by Ukrinform, Apple on Wednesday unveiled new products including smartwatches, updated second-generation AirPods Pro headphones, as well as the anticipated iPhone and iPhone Pro 15 series smartphones.
