According to France, the iPhone 12 significantly exceeds the SAR value, causing sales to stop. Apple doesn’t agree with this and is hesitant about certifications that tell otherwise.

Coincidentally, during the launch of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, the French National Frequency Agency (ANFR) announced that the iPhone 12 exceeds the limit in terms of electromagnetic radiation. The problem lies in the specific absorption rate (SAR). The ANFR states that the European limit values are exceeded.

SAR is a measure of the rate at which energy is absorbed by a human body when exposed to a radio frequency electromagnetic field. It is measured in watts of power per kilogram. The maximum value is 4 W/kg, measured on average over a period of six minutes. There are two measurement points: head and leg (pocket).

The main value is not a problem, but it is the leg value that exceeds the limit. The ANFR measured 5.74 W/kg in its test. As a result of this measurement, the authority immediately imposed a nationwide sales ban. The ANFR has requested a solution from Apple. If this does not happen, the device must be recalled from all current users.

Apple counters

Apple is surprised by the ANFR’s claim and says the iPhone 12 has been certified as compliant by authorities worldwide that apply the standards. It has also submitted evidence to the ANFR with the necessary evidence, The Register said.

Theoretically, Apple can solve the problem with a software update. The ANFR has already announced that it will monitor any fixes that Apple may make.

The iPhone 12 is from 2020 and sales just stopped with the launch of the iPhone 15. The cheapest model available through Apple right now is the iPhone 13. However, that doesn’t change the fact that there may still be a lot of stock in stores that isn’t currently being sold. sold. Sales of refurbished iPhone 12 devices will also be discontinued.
