Apple introduced the new iPhone 15 series at yesterday’s Wonderlust event. The highly anticipated phones quickly became the talk of the town thanks to their features and prices. However, in France, the focus was on the iPhone 12, not the iPhone 15. The model was banned from sale in the European country due to the radiation level exceeding the threshold.

France bans iPhone 12 due to radiation fears

ANFR, the French government’s radiation agency, notified Apple that it plans to ban the sale of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro in France. ANFR said the phones emit excessive levels of radio waves that could pose a health risk to users. Apple disputed the ANFR’s findings, saying the phones met all applicable security standards. The company said it would appeal the decision.

ANFR’s solution is based on research showing that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro emit up to 1.5 watts of radio waves per kilogram at close range. This exceeds the limit of 1 watt per kilogram set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection. ICNIRP limits are based on the number of radio waves considered safe for humans. However, some experts argue that the limits are too high and even low levels of radio waves can be harmful.

Apple disputed the ANFR’s findings, saying the phones met all applicable security standards. The company said it would appeal the decision. However, it is not yet known whether the ANFR’s decision will be implemented or whether Apple will be able to overturn the decision.
