The lower house of the British parliament passed a new bill on Wednesday that would ban the use of Chinese security cameras in government buildings and military bases.
This was reported by Reuters, as reported by Ukrinform.
The House of Commons, or Lower House, of the British Parliament has approved a bill to remove significant amounts of Chinese equipment from government facilities.
The report stated that the new bill came after it was learned over the weekend that a parliamentary investigator in Great Britain was arrested in March on suspicion of spying for China.
Before becoming law, the bill will be considered in the Upper House of Parliament, where officials cannot block any bill if it is approved by a majority of Lower House officials.
Additionally, British MPs have called for a ban on the sale and use of security cameras made by two Chinese companies, Hikvision and Dahua, due to privacy concerns.
Sam Goodman, London-based director of the China Strategic Risk Institute, said the law would be “the next step in ensuring that Hikvision and Dahua remain history in this country.”
As reported, London police confirmed that two men were detained under the State Secrets Act in March. The youngest of the detainees was working in the parliament and was accused espionage In favor of China.
