The Motorola Edge 40 Pro has a new brother, the Edge 40 Neo, which offers a very competitive price-performance ratio. The manufacturer also has two Moto G budget models on offer.

In April, Motorola launched its undisputed top model for 2023, the Edge 40 Pro. A month later the Edge 40 was added and with today’s birth of the Edge 40 Neo the family is complete. In order not to knock the Edge 40 Pro off its pedestal, the Neo version is more similar to the basic version and in many areas the new device offers almost the same at a (evenly) competitive price.

Motorola Edge 40 vs. Edge 40 Neo: Discover the differences

We’ll leave out the comparison with the Edge 40 Pro and focus more on the similarities and differences between Neo and the regular Edge 40. The display is already identical, as the Edge 40 Neo also measures 6.55 inches and has a “polarized” Screen simply has a thinner and slightly cheaper variant of OLED, with a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. Motorola continues the theme of marketing images with floating smartphones to make it clear that the Edge 40 Neo has IP68 protection.

A deeper dive into the specifications reveals even more similarities. The Edge 40 Neo also features a 50MP main camera and a 13MP wide-angle camera, complemented by a 32MP lens on the front. Charging is at 68W and the software includes the same Ready For features for connecting your smartphone to a screen as well as Moto Secure security features.

So are the Motorola Edge 40 and Edge 40 Neo identical twins? No, because the Neo version has a larger battery of 5,000 mAh, compared to 4,400 mAh on the Edge 40. The downside is that it takes a little longer to charge, but after fifteen minutes you’re already at fifty percent. The processor is also different: Motorola has installed a Mediatek Dimensity 7030 5G in the Edge 40 Neo, while the Edge 40 has a processor with the model number 8020.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is available from today at a starting price of 399 euros including VAT. If you are hesitant between this model and the basic version of the Edge 40, the Neo model seems to us to offer better value for money. With almost identical specifications, you’ll save two hundred euros if you choose the Neo.

Leather cover

If a solid foundation is enough, Motorola is also launching two new additions to the Moto G budget series today: the G84 and the G54. Both devices are characterized by their leather cover made of vegan leather, which is available in several color variants. The Moto G84 measures 6.5 inches and also has a Poled screen. The refresh rate this time is “only” 120 Hz, but that’s more than excellent for a budget device. We also see the same image specifications on the Moto G54.

The Moto G84 and G54 also each have a 50 MP main lens flanked by an 8 MP wide-angle lens. There is a 16MP lens on the front. Both devices also come with a 5,000mAh battery that you can charge at 30W Turbocharging. The difference lies in the processor: Motorola chooses Qualcomm (Snapdragon 695 5G) for the Moto G84, while the Moto G54 is equipped with a processor from Mediatek (Dimensity 7020 5G).

Viva Magenta

The Moto G84 is available from today for 299 euros, the Moto G54 only costs 179 euros, prices including VAT. Motorola itself seems to be very proud of the color option Viva Magenta with the Moto G84. You no longer have to teach the manufacturer how to give the colors original names. You can also choose a dark or lighter shade of blue if the pink is a bit too bright for you.
