Adobe released patches for Acrobat Reader, Connect and Experience Manager this week. The vulnerability in the PDF reader is given top priority.
On September 12th, Adobe fixed five vulnerabilities in one fell swoop that affected Acrobat Reader, Connect and Experience Manager. Although only one vulnerability has been discovered in the PDF reader, Adobe does not hesitate to give it the highest priority. The vulnerability may affect both Acrobat DC Reader and Acrobat Reader 2020. The message states that an update will be made to Acrobat DC 23.003.2028 (Windows and macOS) and Acrobat 2020 20.005.30516 (macOS) or 20.005.30514 (Windows), if this has not already happened.
It’s also best not to keep the updates for Adobe Connect and Adobe Experience Manager for too long. Adobe is fixing two vulnerabilities in Connect that are also considered high risk. You can update Connect to 12.41. There are also two vulnerabilities for the Adobe Experience Manager that should be a thing of the past if you switch to version 6.5.18.0 in the desktop app and to release 23.8 for the cloud release.
It’s not surprising that Adobe is taking the security flaw in Acrobat Reader so seriously. Studies from Palo Alto and HP show that PDF files have become a popular attack vector. PDF files are freely exchanged between companies and a .pdf extension creates a sense of trust among the less attentive employees.
This increases the likelihood that a PDF containing malicious code will be downloaded without worry. Making your employees aware of this threat is just as important as ensuring that PDF readers such as Adobe Acrobat Reader are up to date.
Adobe also had more encouraging news to report this week. On Wednesday, the company announced big changes to its video editing software Premiere Pro and After Effects. The AI image generator Firefly will also be made available to a wider audience.
