Barro said Apple will offer a software update to users in France in the coming days.

Sales of the iPhone 12 were halted in France after the national regulator detected too much electromagnetic radiation. Apple promised to fix the problem.

The company said the update will only be available for users in France, where a special testing protocol has been implemented.

The US tech giant claimed that the excessive electromagnetic radiation readings were a result of this particular testing regime and that it was “not a safety issue”.

The planned update raises questions about Apple’s plans for the iPhone 12 model, which was released just three years ago and is available for sale in other countries.

Mr Barro said the French radio frequency regulator (ANFR) would test the new update to determine the compatibility of the iPhone 12 before it is allowed to be sold again in the country.

Previously, the World Health Organization tried to allay fears about radiation emitted by mobile phones. They note that there is no evidence that exposure to low-level electromagnetic fields is harmful to humans.

Apple said in a statement that the detection of excessive electromagnetic radiation in France “is not related to a safety issue but to a specific testing protocol used by French regulators.”

The company said iPhone 12 devices comply with worldwide emissions regulations, but Apple will “release a software update to users in France to comply with the protocol used by French regulators.”

As reported, sales of iPhone 12 products have been suspended in France due to excessive electromagnetic radiation.

France’s National Agency for Radio Frequencies (ANFR) has told Apple that they must recall all iPhone 12s (even those already sold in the country) if they don’t fix the increased radiation issue with a software update.
