In just over a month it will be 27 years since the release of Tomb Raider, a title from Core Design and Eidos Interactive (both now defunct), a title that would be the starting point of a particularly iconic saga, in a very relevant way thanks to Lara Croft, but also because it kick-started 32-bit 3D on PC. That title was undoubtedly a before and after, and many of us still remember it as an incredible experience. In my case, the result of a mixture of good memories and a handful of nostalgia, its soundtrack continues to give me goosebumps.

Even though they knew what they were planning was really promising, I wonder if the two companies even envisioned it significance that his title would achieve, the later saga, and that it will make the leap from PC to the big screen and then to many other formats, such as the Prime Video series we first learned about earlier this year. Until the advent of Tomb Raider, games were based on the biggest movie hits, but the adventure of Lara Croft opened the opposite direction of this path, causing the big hits on PC to make the leap to the cinema.

Tomb Raider I, the 1996 original, remains a legacy, While it’s undeniable that his graphics, which were fascinating in their day, show the passing of the years. That’s why the project to add ray tracing that we saw over a month ago seemed like an interesting proposition. And surely there were many of us who at the time envisioned a return to the classic design, but with updated graphics. We depended on the community modderyes, because there were no signs of official plans for a remaster.

However, I am speaking in the past tense because we have known for the past few hours Yes, Tomb Raider I, II and III, the 1996, 1997 and 1998 titles will be remastered respectively. And moreover, the wait for its arrival will not be too long, since it has already been published on Steam, where it is stated that its release date is February 14, 2024, and it can already be pre-purchased for 23.19 euros, 20% less than the price it will be have at launch, which will be 28.99 euros.

However, it seems that we are talking about a light remastering, as the technical requirements currently listed on Steam point in this direction:

However, the fact that the minimum operating system is stated to be Windows 7, an operating system that will not be supported by Steam before this date, suggests that we should take these specifications with a bit of skepticism.
