ChatGPT diagnosed the boy with a rare disease after more than ten doctors tried for three years.

As reported by Ukrinform, Daily Mail reports this.

Courtney, mother of four-year-old Alex, who suffers from chronic pain, mood swings, fatigue and mobility issues, approached ChatGPT about her son’s diagnosis after visiting 17 different doctors over three years.

While the child was in the emergency room, the woman carefully examined Alex’s test results and entered them into ChatGPT. The artificial intelligence service diagnosed the child with spina bifida and spinal cord malformation.

Symptoms of this rare disease, which affects less than 1% of births a year in the United States, include numbness, pain, muscle weakness and problems with movement control. The patient’s condition is caused by limited blood flow as a result of abnormal connection of the spinal cord to the spinal canal.

Alex had a mild form of the disease that was harder to diagnose but was treated with surgery. It was learned that the child continued his rehabilitation following his treatment.

According to research conducted by scientists from the non-profit integrated healthcare system Mass General Brigham, it is stated that ChatGPT finds the correct diagnosis in 72 percent of cases, and experienced doctors generally detect the disease correctly in 95 percent of patients.

According to Ukrinform, for the first time in Ukraine, a telemedicine pilot project based on artificial intelligence was implemented in Odesa, which significantly accelerated the diagnostic process of brain diseases or injuries.
