The new USB-C connector does not improve charging speed for the new Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro.

Anyone who owns a high-end Android smartphone today can rely on lightning-fast charging statistics. The Xiaomi 13 Pro sprints to 50 percent in 7 minutes, while the OnePlus 11 does this in 9 minutes and the Oppo Reno 10 Pro in 12 minutes. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra lags behind, taking 17 minutes to charge 50 percent.

Apple has been ignoring the faster charging trend for some time now. Anyone hoping for an increase in charging performance by switching to USB-C will be disappointed. According to the Japanese company Otakara, both the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro only achieve a maximum peak charging speed of 27 watts. This is the same as the previous two generations of iPhone models.

Apple officially states a charging speed of around 30 minutes to charge 50 percent with the official 20-watt charger (25 euros including VAT). However, if you use a faster charger, such as from the MacBook or another brand like Anker, you can reduce the charging time by a few minutes.

Wireless charging via MagSafe delivers a maximum power of 15 watts, making it not much slower than wired charging via USB-C.

There were previously rumors that Apple would now support charging speeds of up to 35 watts with the switch to USB-C, but that turns out to be untrue. Everything remains the same, only the connector changes on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro.
