Weiderpass also stressed the value of the study as other risk factors still need to be studied, such as benzene, processed meats, pollution or asbestos exposure, exposure to lead or aspartame (an artificial sweetener).

Studying, monitoring and preventing these factors is Weiderpass’s “best and most beneficial way to avoid cancer,” he concluded.
