The UN International Court of Justice in The Hague continues public hearings on Russia’s preliminary objections to genocide charges under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
According to the Ukrinform correspondent, Ukraine has a say in the court on the second day of the hearings.
“Five hundred seventy-three days ago, Russia launched a brutal, large-scale military offensive against Ukraine. This is a war of extermination; Russia denies the existence of the Ukrainian people and wants to wipe us off the world map. This is a war of imperialism; Russia is a democratically elected It is trying to overthrow our government. It is a war of aggression; Russia tried to seize Ukrainian territory. And it is a war of atrocities, terror and war crimes: mass graves in Buch, torture camps in Kherson and Izyum, tens of thousands of civilians kidnapped and captured, Mariupol and Volnovakha, cities and towns completely destroyed, villages flooded, abducted and deported children, deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure and many other unspeakable horrors,” said Foreign Ministry Ambassador Anton Korynevych in his speech at the UN International Court of Justice.

The hearings are broadcast live in English and French.
The dispute concerns the interpretation, application and enforcement of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
As reported by Ukrinform, the hearings at the UN IC will be held in two rounds: on September 18 and 25, Russia will speak, and on September 19 and 27, Ukraine will have a say in the Court.
Kiev was supported by 32 countries that participated in this case with their intervention. They will have their say on September 20.
If the court finds that it has jurisdiction and that the claim is admissible in whole or in part, the next stage will be to examine the case on its merits.
