Although training and certifications have many (financial) benefits for developers, the cost of training and lack of time are the main reasons for not following them.
In a Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) survey of 135 developers worldwide, more than half (55%) said training and certifications help them find a new job. Two out of three say they would enjoy their daily work more.
69 percent say they would be more loyal to their current employer if they took the time for the employee to participate in and fund training and certifications.
Higher salaries
The CNCF also asked developers how much extra they earned after completing required training and certifications. Just over one in five people say they earn 21 to 30 percent more thanks to their new skills.
It is unknown whether they achieved this after obtaining the certifications with the same employer or with a new one.
No time or too expensive
When the CNCF asks developers why they ignore new certifications and training, high cost and lack of time are the two main reasons.
Not surprisingly, 75 percent of developers expect their employer to cover all or at least some of the costs.
