WhatsApp releases beta version of the app for iPad

The popular WhatsApp messaging app was designed with smartphones in mind. However, over the years, the application has become available for computers as well; An entirely new version was released for macOS last month. Now WhatsApp is finally coming to iPad, allowing users to access their messages from any Apple device.

WhatsApp now has a beta version of its iPad app

According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp Beta available on Apple TestFlight is compatible with iPadOS. Since there was previously no app for iPadOS and the iPhone version was not compatible with Apple’s tablet, iPad users had to use the web version.

9to5Mac WhatsApp has confirmed that the beta now works on iPad with a similar approach to the Mac app. Once you install and open the app, it will ask you to use WhatsApp on your phone to scan the QR code. The app then downloads all your conversations and you can send and receive messages from your iPhone, iPad and Mac.

The iPad app works even when the iPhone is not nearby or connected to the same Wi-Fi network; This is similar to the new macOS application. The interface takes advantage of the larger iPad screen to display more content in columns. The first hints that WhatsApp was working on an iPad app appeared online in 2021.

But as you may have noticed, the iPad version (like the desktop version) is just a companion app. This means you cannot create a new WhatsApp account from it. Still, having an iPad app to access phone messages is already good news for WhatsApp users.

Accessibility

Unfortunately, it is still unknown when WhatsApp for iPad will be generally available. The beta version is only available through TestFlight and is very difficult to access as slots are very limited. Hopefully it will appear on the App Store soon. (But it took almost a year for the Mac version to be released.)
