WhatsApp is available to Apple users at any time. After a beta for macOS, the first test version of an iPadOS app is now being released.
These are good weeks for Apple fans who prefer WhatsApp as a messaging app over iMessage. In August, WhatsApp released a beta for macOS, which is now being expanded to include a special version for the iPad. For now, you can only take part in the beta if you are a registered TestFlight user. It is not yet known when the app will be offered as a beta or stable version via the App Store.
With its own app, WhatsApp is finally drawing the attention of the iPad audience. Previously, iPad owners were limited to the web version of WhatsApp because the iOS app for iPhone was not compatible with their tablet. WhatsApp’s interface looks much better on the larger screen of an iPad, as you can see in screenshots from WABetaInfo.
In a left column you get an overview of your most recent chats, on the right you get the message traffic of the conversation you clicked on. Similar to what WhatsApp looks like on the web or in the desktop app for Windows. The iPad version can also be used without a smartphone. We will explain to you step by step how to set this up for your PC in the enclosed instructions.
WhatsApp was of course developed for smartphones, but the messaging app made the leap to Windows in 2021 and was recently completely redesigned. It took a long time for WhatsApp to express its love for Apple, but that is now changing. The beta of the macOS app has been available since the end of August.
As of this week, iPad users can also get started with the latest version of the operating system. Find out what’s new in iPadOS 17 here.
