Ukrainian company “UADamage” uses satellite imagery and artificial intelligence to digitize mined areas.
Vitaly Lopushansky, founder of the company “UADamage”, said this during a working trip of the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko to Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“With the start of the war, we started to digitize damage from satellite data and artificial intelligence. We created a team where we integrated artificial intelligence into the demining process. We need to prioritize large mined areas, so we used satellite data to digitize the craters, trenches and other features we found and place them on the cadastral registration map.” “We use data to allow agencies like the Department of Defense to prioritize regions for further development.” said Lopushansky.
According to him, it all starts with the digitization of satellite data on craters and trenches across Ukraine. The second level of data is visual inspection using a drone, which detects plastic, fragmentation and anti-tank mines on the ground. The third data level is explosive objects underground. They are searched with the help of magnetometers, thermal cameras, multispectral cameras, chemical sensors and metal detectors.
All this complex information is passed on to people who will clear the areas of mines.
“Our advantage is that we create a platform for everyone. We want to speed up demining hundreds of times. Therefore, we are ready to provide our platform to other companies engaged in demining, shooting with drones with satellite images, and provide our neural networks so that they can digitize this data themselves.” added Lopushanskyi.
The company “UA Damage” has already inspected the Kherson and Kharkiv regions and is currently working in the Mykolaiv region.
Objective conditions for demining the entire territory of Ukraine can only be predicted after the end of the war, but priority demining can be carried out within 5 years, especially on agricultural lands, Ukrinform reported.
