The Federal Government of Justice is entering into a partnership with ML6, a Ghent-based company specializing in AI and also active in our neighboring countries. ML6 will develop a system for digitizing long and complex legal texts to make them more accessible to lawyers, academics and judges. This should lead to a more efficient and uniform justice system in our country.
In the future, court decisions will be tagged to categorize them, and AI can also be used to summarize the texts. Not only does this help lawyers find precedents for their cases more quickly, but they also get to the heart of the cases much more quickly. This means they can spend much less time reviewing lengthy judgments when preparing their plea.
The use of artificial intelligence is also intended to enable the Justice Department to better serve the public. By pseudonymizing texts and converting personal data, the statements can also be made publicly accessible afterwards. The FPS Justice hopes to increase the transparency of the judiciary and thus trust in the judicial authorities.
