The Netgear Obi 970 is a new solution developed by the network specialist for Wi-Fi 7 and you can expect the most advanced performance and features. But as with new technologies Its asking price is equally impressive..

You already know that Wi-Fi 7 is just around the corner. Although the final specifications of the new wireless standard have not yet been approved by the responsible industry groups, chip and device manufacturers are already offering solutions.

Netgear Obi 970, impressive…also included

The latest from Netgear includes a router and other satellites to cover virtually any surface in an office or home environment using mesh networks. They have a modern, slim and elegant design that will not stand out in any room. In addition, it has 12 internal high-gain antennas for 360-degree coverage.

The router promises wireless speed up to 27 Gbps and therefore operates in four bands, 6 GHz, 2.4 GHz and two 5 GHz bands, one of which is configured as backhaul devoted. This enables multi-line operations (MLO) and the dedicated 5 GHz backhaul band can be combined with 6 GHz to provide 10 Gig speeds between the main router and the satellites.

For wired connection, offers four 2.5 GbE and one 10 GbE LAN ports. The satellites also have their ports, two 2.5 GbE and one 10 GbE, although this is a solution that, if it delivers what it promises, can free us from the use of cabling in the local network thanks to the power of wireless connectivity.

Of course, it includes technologies designed for Wi-Fi 7 in terms of 320 MHz bandwidth (320/160+160 MHz and 240/160+80 MHz), which is double that of Wi-Fi 6; quadrature amplitude modulation QAM up to 4094 vs. 1024 earlier; better allocation of resources in OFDMA; improvements in multiline operation (MLO) technology; multi-band/multi-channel aggregation and operation or more efficient use of contiguous and non-contiguous spectrum.

Netgear works with Qualcomm chips the new platform announced by the manufacturer for Wi-Fi 7, which includes intelligent parental control, a free year of automatic security shield for connected devices (NETGEAR Armor Powered by Bitdefender 2) and a control application for configuring the router and the entire network locally or remotely.

Netgear sells the Obi 970 in two colors, white or black, in configurations with the following prices:

  • RBE973S: Router and 2 satellites on $2,299.
  • RBE972S: Router and 1 satellite for $1,699.
  • RBS970: More satellites for $899.

Very high prices for access to elite Wi-Fi 7 solutions, although we expect cheaper.
