The new Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 uses the latest Intel chips and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 series graphics card. The design remains almost unchanged.
When the first Surface Laptop Studio saw the light of day two years ago, we in Belgium had to wait. Six months later, on February 22, 2022, we got the green light. Six months later, the successor is available with the same long name: Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2.
Little has changed on the outside. The most noticeable feature, the screen, which you can also mount in front of the keyboard, remains the same 14.4-inch touchscreen (2,400 x 1,600 pixels, 120 Hz).
The housing also remains unchanged, only the number of ports is now a little more extensive: 2x USB-C (Thunderbolt 4), 1x USB-A (USB 3.1), surface port, jack connection and a microSD card slot. Creative professionals would undoubtedly have liked a full SD card slot.
The biggest improvements are inside. Microsoft has installed the latest 13th generation Intel chip (Intel Core i7-13700H) in the Surface Laptop Studio 2. For the first time, the notebook also has an Intel NPU, the Movidius 3700VC AI Accelerator.
All of this is supported by either an integrated Intel Xe graphics card or an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 model. In Belgium you can only order the Intel Xe version or one with RTX 4050 on board through Microsoft. The models with an RTX 4060 or a professional RTX 2000 Ada generation are not available through Microsoft, but may be available through official B2B channels with Windows 11 Pro preinstalled.
Models are available with 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB of RAM (LPDDR5x) and with 512 GB or 1 TB of storage (NVMe PCIe 4.0). According to Microsoft, the version with an Intel GPU would have a battery life of up to 19 hours, with an Nvidia card up to 18 hours.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 will be available from October 3rd. Prices start at 2,239 euros for the basic model with 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD and integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics card. If you want an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050, you will pay at least 2,719 euros. The high-end version with RTX 4050, 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD costs 3,199 euros. All prices include VAT.
Other configurations are only available in B2B-oriented stores. Prices and availability are not yet known.
