In collaboration with BICS, the Payconiq app now also supports multi-factor authentication (MFA) to authenticate users.
BICS, formerly Belgacom International Carrier Services, has partnered with Payconiq by Bancontact to make the app more secure by introducing MFA. When users log in to the app for the first time, they are required to authenticate via SMS as additional verification. The aim of the app is to better protect its users from hackers.
Extra protection never hurts as the app continues to grow in popularity. It has been the most popular payment app in Belgium since the merger of Bancontact and Payconiq in 2018. Last year alone, 275 million mobile payments were registered, more than 800 percent more than when the collaboration began.
“The new Payconiq application means that our customers receive the same reliable payments, but with a more user-friendly experience,” says Jérôme Deliège, CTO of Bancontact Payconiq Company. “Customer safety is always a priority and these processes must run reliably and smoothly.”
