British billionaire Richard Branson announced the establishment of the Planet Guardians coalition to combat climate change.
As reported by Ukrinform, The Hill reports this.
The Guardians of the Planet coalition includes 14 world-renowned thought leaders, including actor Robert Redford, scientist and environmentalist Jane Goodall, and former Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.
Branson said the way to combat climate change is to measure it accurately.
“If you can’t measure something accurately, you can’t fix it. “The idea is that we will measure nine major planetary indicators every year,” he said.
Especially regarding the area of rainforests and species extinction.
Branson also acknowledged the impact of Virgin Group, the company he founded in 1970, on climate change. The transnational conglomerate includes more than 400 companies, including Virgin Atlantic airline and Virgin Galactic commercial space program.
He noted that Virgin Galactic has managed to minimize the cost of spaceflight “from a carbon perspective.”
According to Ukrinform, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said that climate change causes human rights emergencies in many countries.
