Capcom is not for sale and would reject a purchase attempt by Microsoft

Microsoft has bought some of the most important video game development studios in the world, and as we know, it is waiting to close the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, an operation of huge importance that is increasingly close to a successful conclusion, but which will be the next step for the American company, Could you try to buy Capcom?

It’s a good question, no doubt about it, and it’s clear that the Redmond company would have no problem buying Capcom for the money, but That doesn’t mean I can get it.. In an interview with Bloomberg, Capcom’s COO Haruhito Tsujimoto said that they were a “target” at the time, but that they preferred to remain independent and adopt their own growth strategies.

If Microsoft launched an offer to buy Capcom he would politely refuse heras they believe it is better for the industry that they continue their journey independently and that they can work as “equals”.

The truth is that I am not surprised by Haruhito’s comment, the Japanese company is experiencing one of its best periods, its key franchises are more successful than ever and its stock has skyrocketed on many occasions, in fact last July they closed and a record value of 6,520 yen, which at the exchange rate would be 41.28 euros.

Capcom is hoping to close out a great year thanks mostly to good results which he achieved with his last two key releases, Resident Evil 4 remakewhich recently received the long-awaited DLC Separate Ways, where we will play as Ada Wong, a street fighter 6, which repeats the classic game-as-a-service model that we already saw in the previous installment and which was very lucrative for the Japanese company.

Personally, I think that if Microsoft completes its purchase of Activision Blizzard, it will have a very difficult time buying other triple-A developers, and Capcom would enter the equation. It’s not hard to understand, giant he would already have a huge number of developers under him and an attempt to buy Capcom’s next level could be seen as a move against free competition and would end up being stopped outright by most regulatory bodies.
