Visma acquires Silverfin. The Ghent-based company, which develops cloud-based accounting software, will continue to grow internationally under the Visma flag.

With the acquisition of Silverfin, Norwegian Visma continues to grow in our region. Founded in Ghent in 2013, Silverfin develops cloud-based software for accountants. Since its founding, the company has convinced 850 clients, including Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC. The Silverfin platform reaches almost 320,000 end customers through its direct customers. In other words, silverfin are not small fish.

Synergy and growth

Visma pursues an acquisition strategy in which it incorporates promising companies into the group in order to benefit from synergies and can fundamentally continue to operate with a high degree of independence. That’s also the plan at Silverfin. With the acquisition, the group strengthens its control over the Belgian software market, where 28 of the 30 largest accounting firms use the Silverfin platform.

“This is a big milestone for Silverfin,” say co-founders Tim Vandecasteele and Joris Van Der Gucht. “Over the years, we have been fortunate to attract the interest of many organizations who wanted to work with Silverfin. We got to know Visma and share a common vision of entrepreneurship, technological innovation and customer focus. The Silverfin product is now being distributed to many more accountants.”

Visma had previously been shopping in Belgium and acquired, among other things, Beeple and Teamleader. Visma has more than two hundred IT-related companies under its wing.
