U.S. immigration authorities are investigating the death of a child who crossed the Arizona border with his mother amid a wave of immigrants in recent days that has overwhelmed aid and official controls.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said a Border Patrol agent in Nogales, Arizona, found the mother and child along the border highway near the Mariposa Port of Entry on Saturday.
The authorities transported them to Border Patrol from Nogales for medical attention, where they attempted to resuscitate the child while waiting for local emergency medical services to arrive. the child was left to die later at the hospital center.
Authorities have not identified the mother and her daughter and are investigating the cause of death.
Last Friday the governor ArizonaDemocrat Katie Hobbs paid $10 million to the Nogales police department, located on the border with Mexico, in connection with mass migration flow.
Last week, the Border Patrol began releasing hundreds of migrants in border communities in Arizona, California and Texas due to increase in the number of migrants and lack of resources and space in their processing centers.
CBP informed Governor Hobbs that fifty of its agents at ports of entry have been reassigned to assist with the immigration crisis.
