From today you can subscribe to a new fiber offering from Orange with download speeds of up to 1Gbps.
After Proximus and Mobile Vikings, Orange is now also launching its fiber optic offering. From 45 euros per month you get a basic speed of up to 150 Mbit/s with an upload of 15 Mbit/s. If you want the highest speed, you can expect a download speed of 1Gbps and an upload of 50Mbps.
Start Fiber | Zen fiber | Giga Fiber | |
Download | 150 Mbps | 400 Mbps | 1Gbps |
Upload | 15 Mbps | 40 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
Price/month | 46 euros | 61 euros | 71 euros |
The “all-in” solution adds a 4G backup and a free annual check-up to the gigabit speed. Boosting your home Wi-Fi for optimal coverage in every corner of the room costs 3 euros per month.
As part of the introductory campaign, new customers can benefit from a pack of Giga Fiber including a Go Plus 20 GB mobile phone package for 61 euros per month for the first six months of their subscription.
The reason the upload speed is not faster is due to the technology Orange uses. The new offer is based on the fiber optic network with coaxial connection (HFC technology: Hybrid Fiber Coaxial), which enables speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s (depending on geographical availability).
In collaboration with Fluvius, Orange also offers a pure fiber optic offering without coaxial cable. It is currently a pilot project with limited coverage of five cities: Genk, Ghent, Diksmuide, Poperinge and Antwerp. This offer also provides a download at 1 Gbit/s, but the upload is significantly higher at 200 Gbit/s, as we would expect from a “real” fiber optic connection.
