SAP introduces its own chatbot based on generative AI: Joule. Joule will eventually come to the entire SAP portfolio.
Today, those who don’t have their own generative AI chatbot may feel like they’re on the sidelines. Like just about every other major technology company, SAP doesn’t want to miss the AI ​​hype train and that’s why we can keep Joule above the baptismal font today.
Just like Microsoft Copilot or Salesforce Einstein GPT, Joule is a chatbot that is intended to offer great added value for employees through (secure) access to company data. SAP users can ask Joule questions in human language, after which the chatbot translates existing data into clear answers. SAP itself cites the example of a manufacturer asking for current sales, whereupon Joule can immediately display results from key regions, linked to any supply chain issues and possible solutions.
SAP eventually wants to integrate Joule into its entire portfolio, from ERP to CRM to HR. For the latter department, the chatbot can, for example, help create objective job descriptions or formulate relevant questions for job interviews.
The design is not unique, but the announcement is important. With everyone now adopting intelligent chatbots, SAP cannot lag behind. If the added value of things is as great as predicted, the lack of an intelligent bot would be a key reason to switch to a competitor that has built-in AI to present data and insights from systems in human language.
Joule will initially come to SAP SuccesFactors and the SAP Start site. The bot will appear there this year. SAP S/4HANA will be available in early 2024. SAP Customer Experience, SAP Ariba and SAP Business Technology Platform follow. SAP plans to announce further details at various events planned for the fall.
The company points to the extensive corporate data its solutions have access to and the added value a bot can derive from it. It is not immediately clear what technological base Joule will receive. SAP has already invested in Anthropic, Cohere and other promising AI companies large language models that drive generative AI, but also works with Microsoft, Google and IBM.
