Last week, Microsoft announced the arrival of a major Windows 11 update. includes Microsoft Copilot for the first timeAn artificial intelligence assistant that users can use on these computers starting from September 26.

Yesterday the update actually started rolling out to Windows 11 users, but Xataka editors who tried to make it happen discovered that we couldn’t access Copilot. Did we do something wrong? No. These functions are not yet available in Spain or Europe.

In an article on their blog, those responsible for Microsoft explained the steps to take advantage of the “latest innovations of Windows 11”, which will be available to those who have the 22H2 version of Windows 11 on their computers. last year-.

HE Upgrading to Windows 11 2023 Update (version 23H2) includes the latest developments in applications and, above all, the long-awaited Copilot. Integrated into the operating system, this assistant allows you to speed up any tasks when working with a Windows PC and the applications and services we use on it.

However, the release of the update in general and the rollout of Copilot in particular will not happen as quickly as we would like. Both my colleagues and I have noticed how the update released so far (specifically KB5030310) has been cumulative, like many other updates in recent months.

What should you do to get the last major update to Windows 11 23H2 and with it Copilot? For now we can only do one thing: wait. As Xataka, we contacted Microsoft and they explained the process to us. To start, the rollout will be gradual, with select markets being the first to receive these improvements.

At Microsoft specifically they explain: “Initial markets for the preview version of Copilot on Windows include North America and parts of Asia and South America.”

But they clarify: “The European Economic Area (EEA) will exist As soon as we can provide a service that complies with EEA rulesThose responsible for the company emphasize that their goal is to “make Copilot on Windows available in the EEA as soon as possible.”

What is the obstacle? European regulation and in particular the DMA or Digital Markets LawThis makes companies the guardians of our data. Both the DMA and the DSA came into force on November 1, 2022, but their actual implementation began in May of this year, affecting, among other things, the deployment of services such as Copilot.

That’s why Microsoft explains, “We are working on an ambitious program to bring Copilot for Windows to the EEA in full compliance with the WFD, and we will continue to cooperate with the European Commission as these compliance efforts progress.”

The firm concludes by explaining that it has begun “testing and implementing changes to ensure that the designated services fully comply with the EU Digital Markets Act.” before March 2024“So this looks like the last date we’ll get both the update and Copilot. But it’s possible that both options may actually arrive sooner, and we’ll be careful when they do.
