A company representative said Mitsubishi is in talks with its local manufacturing partner, but no official decision has been made on the matter.

Mitsubishi Motors, which suspended production in China in March due to falling sales and the growth of local brands, now plans to focus its resources on the Southeast Asian market, sources said.

It is stated that in China, the Japanese company produces mostly gasoline-powered cars at a facility in Hunan province as part of a joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group.

This facility is the only Mitsubishi Motors factory in the country.

As part of its efforts to boost sales, the Japanese automaker launched a new hybrid version of its flagship Outlander SUV for the Chinese market in December. However, this was not enough in an environment where the transition to fully electric cars was faster than expected and the market share of local brands was increasing in China, currently the world’s largest electric car market.

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co announced on Monday that all car models sold in Europe will be fully electric by 2030, Ukrinform reported.
