AI Copilot for Windows 11 isn’t officially available in Europe yet, but there’s a way to get a taste of it now. How to conjure up Windows Copilot.

Anyone who installed the Windows 11 update from September 26th will have already noticed: no trace of Copilot. The AI ​​assistant was announced a week ago with much fanfare, but people in the European Union apparently didn’t care about the announcement. European legislation currently prevents Microsoft from rolling out Copilot in our region.

The game changer is the Digital Markets Act. Microsoft has been named by the European Commission as one of the “gatekeepers” subject to stricter rules. Therefore, Windows Copilot in its current form is non-compliant. Microsoft is working hard to get this right, it confirmed to German magazine Dr. Windows.

You can already use Windows Copilot

The smart AI assistant is also not completely missing from the update, as ComputerBase and Hardware Info have found out. Windows Copilot is well hidden but can be accessed with a specific command. Open the menu Carry out with the hotkey combination Win + R and type microsoft-edge://?ux=copilot&tcp=1&source=taskbar. The Copilot menu should now open if you have already installed the update.

We’ve already tried Windows Copilot and the tool can also help you with simple commands like opening applications or turning on dark mode. Any Windows user can perform these actions without the help of AI. You’ll have to wait a little longer until Windows Copilot processes your request: It certainly doesn’t seem to be a “mature” version of Copilot yet, as Microsoft imagined.

Prompts that require multiple steps, such as: “Can you let Jens know I’m on my way through Teams?”, also seem to go beyond the artificial cap. Copilot does open Teams and proudly announces this in the dialog box, but sending the message is too much. You can take Windows Copilot further with follow-up questions.
