Mobile data prices in Belgium

Where in the world do you pay the least for mobile data? A British price comparator has taken a closer look at telecommunications prices worldwide. Belgium is in the most expensive half.

Belgium has been known for its high telecommunications prices for years and a global study has confirmed this once again. The British price comparator Cable.co.uk examined mobile data prices in 237 countries and island groups. On the interactive map you can view prices in dollars, but to find out prices in local currency you can also download an Excel spreadsheet.

According to the study, mobile data in Belgium costs an average of 2.08 euros per gigabyte. To reach this conclusion, 52 different formulas were examined. Prices per gigabyte range from 0.12 cents to up to 18 euros in the most expensive tariffs analyzed by Cable.co.uk.

If you look at our immediate neighboring countries, the difference to France is particularly noticeable. Our southern neighbors are among the cheapest countries in Europe and even in the world. In France you pay an average of 0.18 cents per gigabyte, with peak values of up to sixty euros. Germany is within our price range with an average price of 2 euros per gigabyte. The Netherlands surprisingly fell by the wayside in the study.

Expensive, but not the most expensive

The British place our country 166th in the global ranking of the 237 countries surveyed. This means that although mobile data in Belgium is expensive, it can be much more expensive. In general, prices are highest in African countries and remote island groups due to a lack of infrastructure. Zimbabwe is the absolute price champion with an average price per gigabyte of $43.75.

If you want the cheapest mobile internet, you need to move to Israel. The average price converted into dollars is the lowest at 2 dollar cents per gigabyte. Even the most expensive plan examined cost less than a dollar per gigabyte. Mobile data is also dirt cheap in Italy, San Marino and, more exotically, Fiji.
