When Microsoft announced Windows 10, it offered users of older versions of Windows the opportunity to transfer their license for free. This offer officially expired on July 29, 2016, but due to a loophole it was still possible to carry out the free upgrade. All beautiful songs come to an end: In a blog, Microsoft confirms that all options for installing Windows 10 for free are closed.
If you still use Windows 7 or Windows 8, you have the following options. The option that Microsoft is pushing you towards is buying a new PC with Windows 11. Licenses for Windows 10 have also no longer been available for a fee since January. Another option is to stay on the old and no longer supported version of Windows if exposing your PC to all sorts of vulnerabilities doesn’t deter you.
The upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 remains available for free. Your PC must meet Microsoft technical requirements.
