NASA delays launch of mission to asteroid Psyche by a week

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has postponed the launch of the Psyche mission to the asteroid Psyche, located between Mars and Jupiter, by a week.

This was reported by Space.com, according to Ukrinform’s report.

The launch of the Falcon Heavy rocket ship, which is expected to deliver NASA’s Psyche spacecraft, was planned for October 5, but it was decided to postpone it to October 12.

This will allow the NASA team to complete testing parameters for controlling the Psyche spacecraft’s cold-gas low-thrust nitrogen thrusters.

At the same time, delaying the mission launch significantly shortens Psyche’s launch window, which is due to be on until October 25.

The US$1.2 billion Psyche mission is designed to explore the asteroid Psyche. If all goes as planned, the spacecraft will arrive at the 280-kilometer asteroid Psyche, located in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, in 2029.

As Ukrinform reported, the capsule of the Osiris-Rex spacecraft returned to Earth on September 24 with samples of the asteroid Bennu.
