Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota announced that the seat upholstery in some new car models will be made from material obtained from recycling plastic bottles.
This was reported by Nhk according to Ukrinform’s report.
Plastic bottles collected by Toyota’s head office will be shredded and turned into upholstery weaving threads. A total of 21 bottles are needed to upholstery a car.
The new material will be used in various all-wheel drive Toyota models that will be launched in Japan and abroad next year.
Toyota has said it wants to use more recycled materials to reach its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Mitsubishi Chemical, one of the major Japanese chemical companies, plans to use plastic waste as raw materials for its chemical products instead of oil refined products, Ukrinform reported.
