According to a survey of ITdaily readers, ChatGPT is well established in our daily work lives. Seven out of ten IT experts use the chatbot daily or occasionally, with or without the employee’s knowledge.

Hardly a day goes by without people talking about ChatGPT and related topics. Industry experts can’t stop talking about the revolution AI will bring to our daily (working) lives, but is it true? We asked our readers if they use ChatGPT for professional purposes.

This is also the case for the vast majority. No fewer than seventy percent of participants say they use ChatGPT for work. For 38 percent this is occasionally, for 22 percent it is (almost) daily.

We emphasize that the survey does not ask how people use ChatGPT. This may include writing emails to clients and assisting with coding. Almost 25 percent do not see any task as adding any value to the technology in their work.

Employers are not always interested in giving their employees access to ChatGPT. The fear of sharing internal company data is one of the main reasons for restricting or even banning chatbots. This is evident in the Belgian IT landscape: only six percent say that their employer does not allow ChatGPT in the workplace.

This percentage could be higher because not every employee obtains explicit permission to use ChatGPT. Ten percent do this without having made any agreements with their employer.
