Artificial Intelligence Recently, it has become the hottest branch of computer technology. Two or three years, but especially throughout the year 2023, is a rare week when we do not know about its new practical use, the evolution of previously existing tools. And unsurprisingly, we can expect to maintain this pace in the short and probably medium term as we live in a time where it seems no one wants to be left out of trendy technology.
In its vast majority, the news that is presented is interesting, useful or at least entertainingand areas of application continue to grow. From its use in games, with technologies so established with NVIDIA DLSS or, speaking of the same technology, its plans to give much more life to NPCs with NVIDIA ACE, to tools for everyday use such as those from Google, generative AI as DALL- E 3 and GPT-4, ecosystems like Microsoft Copilot… the list is endless.
Unfortunately, however, we also began to hear use of artificial intelligence that is questionable to say the leastand which are simply negligible in certain cases. And, of course, there are quite a few among them who, even if they may comply with the current legality, are highly questionable in the area of ethics. In the last few days, we have learned about two very recent cases that undoubtedly represent what should not be done with artificial intelligence.
On the one hand, the actor himself Tom Hanks posted a video on his Instagram account in which he warned against faking his identity in a promotional campaign for dental health insurance. He obviously didn’t give specifics about said action, we understand this is to avoid further publicity, but he strongly opposes his image being used in this way without his permission.
On the other hand, today we can read in Business Insider reaction of Zelda Williams, daughter of Robin Williams, to hearing her father’s artificial intelligence voice prompt. Obviously, these creations were not approved by the family, and Zelda says that listening to them was an unsettling experience. And no wonder, because surely we would all feel the same if we found ourselves with the voice of a loved one who is no longer here, reproducing any type of text.
Both the European Union and the United States of America and many other regions, They are working on a regulatory framework so that advances in artificial intelligence do not lead to the misuse of the gigantic potential of this technology. And this is undoubtedly an aspect that must be very, very much taken into account.
