Windows’ new AI assistant appears to be causing a software error in the AMD driver software. Explorer has had other problems since the last update.

Microsoft introduced the third “update moment” of the year for Windows 11 on September 26th and traditionally the first technical problems appear not much later. A week later, it’s time to measure the damage. Most of the problems currently seem to occur with Windows Copilot.

AMD laptop owners are finding that the AI ​​assistant unintentionally clears driver settings every time they boot up. This only seems to happen if you have the latest beta version of AMD Adrenalin installed (version 29.9.3). There is no official solution yet, but a workaround is shared on the AMD forum via Vivetool.

The chances that you are familiar with this problem are rather small. Windows Copilot is not yet available in Europe, but there is a workaround to use the AI ​​assistant now. Copilot does not seem to be fully developed yet and can currently only process “simple” commands that could be carried out without the help of AI.

The update problems are not limited to Copilot. Many reports are received about Explorer. Microsoft has given Explorer a facelift and, among other things, added a gallery to display media files, but the update doesn’t seem to be entirely satisfactory. Not only has Explorer become noticeably slower and uses significantly more RAM on your PC, some users can no longer use the tool at all.

Then there are also problems with the Windows search bar. It may also stop working after implementing the update. Some may also see a “C” where the magnifying glass icon should normally be. After all, there are always the necessary ones black screensalthough these are rather extreme cases.

Wait a little longer?

After reading this article, you may be glad you put off updating for a while, or you may now be grumbling about a PC that no longer works properly. Please note that the first few days after a (major) Windows update are always “exciting”: Microsoft tests every update thoroughly via its Insider channel, but unforeseen problems can always arise when rolling out to the general public come. What happens to someone else doesn’t necessarily have to happen on your device.
