It seems that NVIDIA has no plans to launch a desktop GeForce RTX 4050, which is undoubtedly bad news, but this does not mean that the green giant is not going to launch any new product in what we can consider the low-mid range. According to new information GeForce RTX 3050 with 6GB will fill this space and arrive in 2024.

Yes, we already know that NVIDIA has a GeForce RTX 3050 with 8 GB on the market, in fact we published an analysis of the said graphics card then, but this version with 6 GB of graphics memory will occupy a different positionas it fills a gap that currently exists in NVIDIA’s catalog of low-mid range graphics solutions.

Generally speaking, the 6GB GeForce RTX 3050 will be a stripped down version of the 8GB model. We don’t have a full list of specs, but we do know that reducing the graphics memory to 6GB will also reduce bandwidth due to trimming the memory bus, which it will go from 128 bits to 96 bits. The Ampere architecture will be preserved, but it is possible that there will also be clipping at the shader level.

This bus and memory limitation will have a significant impact on the performance of the graphics card, in fact I think we would be talking about power loss between 15% and 20% memory and bandwidth reduction just because of it. We have to keep in mind that, in addition, the GeForce RTX 3050 with 6 GB will have lower working frequencies at the GPU level (1470 MHz base clock, depending on the source).

The novelty from NVIDIA could also arrive with a notch at the shader level, although the latter is not confirmed and it is possible that the same configuration at the GPU level that we saw with the GeForce RTX 3050 8 GB will remain. However, the source suggests this The TGP of the 6GB model will be 70 watts, which is a significant reduction from the 110-watt TGP of the 8GB model.

With that in mind, I think we’ll most likely see a drop in shaders as well. The 8GB GeForce RTX 3050 has 2,560 shaders and the 6GB GeForce RTX 3050 can be configured with 2048 shaders. Obviously, this would mean reducing the number of texturing units and other elements. Its price should be around 150 euros.

Possible specifications of GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB

  • GA107 GPU (Amp) in 8 nm.
  • 2048 shaders at 1470 MHz (base frequency).
  • 64 texturing units.
  • 32 raster units.
  • 16 second generation RT cores.
  • 64 tensor cores of the third generation.
  • 96-bit bus.
  • 6 GB of GDDR6 memory at 14 GHz.
  • 70W TGP.
