UN demands immediate release of 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi

United Nations (UN) along with other humanitarian NGOs such as Amnesty International And Human Rights Watch (HRW) asks Iranian authorities to immediately release journalist and activist Narges Mohammadi, who was awarded the Order this Friday Nobel Peace Prize 2023 for her fight for women’s rights and, after her imprisonment, in the prisons of the Islamic Republic.

Mohammadi, currently imprisoned in Evin Prison in Tehran.spent most of it the last 20 years behind bars after being repeatedly convicted of propaganda and “threat” to state security, which is effectively described by humanitarian organizations as “political persecution”.

Liz Trosell, Representative UN Office of Humanitarian Affairstold a news conference in Geneva, Switzerland that Mohammadi’s award “reveals the courage and determination of Iranian women who are an inspiration to the world.”

Thus, the UN “calls for his release, as well as the release of all human rights defenders imprisoned in Iran”.

Throughout her life as an activist, the winner of the prestigious award created associations for women’s rights, and also wrote books and articles condemningBuses to which both women and people imprisoned in the country are subjected.

For her journalistic work, Mohammadi was awarded the UN World Press Freedom Awardtogether with his Iranian colleagues Nilufar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi.

Relatives and friends of activists have asked countless times for Mohammadi’s release on humanitarian grounds following a heart attack she suffered last year that forced her to undergo emergency surgery.

So much Amnesty International How executive director of Human Rights WatchTirana Hassan has joined a UN petition calling for the “immediate and unconditional release of Mohammadi”, applauding the activist for a confession that recalls “her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and defending the freedom of all.”

With this award, the Nobel Committee recognizes their enormous contributions, their selfless sacrifices, and the courage and resilience shown by them and other activists in the fight for a brighter Iran that is more respectful of human rights.

Amnesty also defended the importance of the reward in its statement, which “will not contribute to his release, but sends a clear signal to Iranian authorities that their crackdown on peaceful critics and human rights defenders will not remain unanswered.”
