The BBC, Great Britain’s largest news organization, has outlined approaches to the use of generative artificial intelligence. The company is open to the use of technology in journalism but has banned data collection from its sites.
BBC Director of Nations Rhodri Talfan Davies (Rhodri Talfan Davies) said the broadcaster believes technology offers opportunities to deliver value to viewers.
The company says it will work for the public good when using artificial intelligence. The BBC also aims to prioritize talent and creativity and be open about AI-generated content.
The publisher also plans to collaborate with other companies and regulators to safely introduce new technologies.
The company also blocked OpenAI and Common Crawl web crawlers from accessing its sites. This measure is designed to protect copyrighted content. BBC representatives say training AI on company data without the company’s permission is against the public interest.
CNN, The New York Times and other major media companies have previously banned similar data collection. Source
