Sony unexpectedly presented an updated version of its PlayStation 5 game console, which has become more compact and lighter than the original version produced so far. In fact, this PS5 Slim prefers to call it the “new PS5”, although the Japanese manufacturer does not call the new product that way. The prices of the new console will not differ from the prices of the existing versions of PS5.

The volume of the new PS5 has been reduced by more than 30% compared to the previous PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition models, by 18% and 24% respectively. While the general design concept remains the same, the side panels have been divided into two. The console now has four separate panels; The upper part has a glossy surface, while the lower part remains matte.

Separately, it is worth noting Sony’s decision to add in the new PS5 Digital Edition the possibility of upgrading to the regular PS5 with a disc drive. The fact is that the company will release the removable disk drive Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for PS5, and this drive will be sold separately at a price of $ 79.99 or € 119.99. The user will receive a suitable side panel for the console along with the disc drive, so it will not differ from the regular PS5 after the upgrade.

In terms of features, the new version of PlayStation 5 is practically no different from its predecessor. It also uses an AMD processor with eight Zen 2 cores (16 threads, up to 3.5GHz) and RDNA 2 graphics with 36 threads, as well as a shared 16GB of GDDR6 RAM for the CPU and GPU. The main difference in terms of performance is the new solid state drive, which has been increased to 1TB. Previously, PS5 was only equipped with an 825 GB SSD. Such an upgrade will allow you to install more games on the console.

The new version of PS5 will go on sale in the USA in November this year. It will be distributed worldwide in the coming months. Once stock of the current PS5 versions runs out, the new PS5 will be the only model available.
