Windows 11 21H2 support just ended this week, so Microsoft already does not issue monthly updates with fixes and security patches. Obviously – if you want to continue with Windows 11 – you need to migrate to a supported version before Microsoft does it with forced updates.
You already know that the official support between versions of Windows 11 has expired and that the 21st half of the 2nd ended yesterday. After the End of Service (EOS) date, Windows 10 21H2 devices will not receive monthly quality and security updates, as well as bug fixes and emergency patches for discovered vulnerabilities. You can’t (shouldn’t) maintain a system as vulnerable and hacked as Windows without security updates.
There are options and better ones than a version that wasn’t entirely liked, despite adding productivity-focused features and improvements such as Pin the layout, the Windows subsystem for Android, better support for external displays or Windows widgets. He also disliked the redesigned taskbar and Start menu, probably due to the rushed release. It is a constant in the development of Windows 11.
The easiest way to update is within the installed Windows system itself, searching for updates in the section Windows Update General Settings Tool. The update respects files and apps, user data and settings and is cumulative, installing the latest features and security patches that Microsoft has released so far.
If you want, you can use the version change to do a a “clean” installation from scratch, a recommended task to perform from time to time as maintenance through ISO images published by Microsoft. You can follow our guide to install Windows 22H2, which is the latest supported version.
Once this major version is installed, you can update it with ‘Moments 4’, the latest version of features released for the Windows stable channel, but it installs separately. And at the end of the year we expect a new version, 23H2. Yeah; a real mess motivated by changes to the Windows development engineering program that should be maintained until Windows 12 launches.
