Apple has released a preliminary version of the iPhone 12 update, which will reduce the radiation level on the smartphone and eliminate the claims of French officials who previously suspended the sale of this model in the country.

The iPhone 12 emission level will return to regulatory indicators after the release of iOS 17.1. This became known a day before Apple released the preliminary version of iOS 17.1 Beta 3; Specifically, the release notes stated: “Updates iPhone 12 for users in France by adapting specific Electromagnetic Energy Absorption Rate (SAR) testing protocol”.

French authorities temporarily suspended iPhone 12 sales in the country after the French National Frequency Agency (ANFR) tested 141 phones for SAR levels and found that the iPhone 12 exceeded regulatory limits. Apple said that the model complies with the standards, has a detection function on the body and reduces the radiation level when activated, and this issue was not taken into account during the tests.

The situation could have gotten worse, but the manufacturer agreed to release an iPhone 12 firmware update designed to normalize the SAR indicator. Apple sent the update to French authorities for review, and they approved it. The SAR indicator on the iPhone 12 will return to the legal value with the release of the public version of iOS 17.1.
