The Adobe Lightroom app for Android has received a major update that adds support for HDR images. This means users can now edit and export HDR images directly from the app without using a separate app.
However, this new feature has some limitations. First, it is only available on devices running Android 14. The latter is currently only supported on a limited number of devices, including the Google Pixel 7 phone and newer models.
To use the new HDR feature, simply open an HDR image in Lightroom and enter editing mode. Then select the Light tool and scroll down to enable the Edit in HDR option. Now tap the HDR logo in the upper right corner to view the HDR histogram, which will help you check the brightness distribution in your image.
You can also enable options like Visualize HDR and Preview for SDR display to see how your changes will look on different devices. Finally, fine-tune parameters such as exposure, contrast and sharpness in the SDR settings. Once you’re happy with your settings, tap the share icon and choose a file type to export your HDR photo.
Note that Lightroom for Android currently supports three color spaces for HDR photos: HDR sRGB (Rec. 709), HDR P3, and HDR Rec. 2020. These are improved versions of sRGB, Display P3 and Rec. 2020 color spaces, each with a different color gamut.
The addition of HDR support to Lightroom for Android is great news for Android users who love taking and editing HDR photos. But unfortunately it is currently limited to such a small number of devices. We hope Adobe will expand support for more devices in the future.
