Russian intelligence is now interested in the specific consequences of Finland’s NATO membership, support for Ukraine, and various ways to avoid sanctions.
This was stated by Antti Pelttari, head of SUPO of the Finnish Security Police, at a press conference on Thursday, Ukrinform reported, citing Yle.
He emphasized that after the expulsion of diplomats, the activities of Russian special services in Finland have become more complicated, so the Russian Federation will devote more efforts to cyberspace. Russian hackers in particular have increased Dos attacks on Finnish infrastructure, but Pelttari assured that such cyberattacks generally do not pose a threat to national security.
SUPO also emphasized that unprotected home routers connecting to the internet can pose a serious threat.
The head of the security police believes that Finland’s membership in NATO will guarantee protection against the “most aggressive” forms of influence of the Russian Federation.
Russian hackers launched a series of cyberattacks on the websites of the Bank of Finland, the country’s tax office and some mass media, Ukrinform reported last Thursday.
Early on October 4, Russian hacker group NoName 057 (16) attacked the websites of Finnish transport infrastructure and banks.
