Latest Patch On Tuesday, the original version of Windows 11 received the latest security update from Microsoft. If you haven’t upgraded to Windows 11 2022 Major Feature Update yet, now is the time.
Most importantly for home users is the end of support for Windows 11 version 21H2. This affects the following versions:
- Windows 11 Home edition 21H2
- Windows 11 Pro, version 21H2
- Windows 11 Pro version 21H2 for workstations
- Windows 11 Pro Education, version 21H2
There are some exceptions. Windows 11 Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise Multisession editions for this release will be supported until October 10, 2024 and will receive security updates from Microsoft until then.
Here’s what affected Windows 11 users need to do now
Fortunately, staying safe is easy; You don’t even need to take action on your own. Windows 11 automatically triggers feature updates through Windows Update for home users and unmanaged enterprise devices that have reached end-of-life or will do so in the next few months.
Microsoft is doing this because it wants to ensure that Windows 11 computers continue to be supported and receive security-critical monthly updates. For these devices, you can choose a convenient time to reboot and complete the update. Microsoft explains the full procedure here.
As a general rule, Microsoft recommends that you always install the latest version of Windows 11; currently Windows 11 is 22H2. Microsoft must provide the following A major fall update for Windows 11 with version 23H2 will be released in the coming weeks.
Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2
October 10 also marked the end of regular support for Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2. However, since these are operating systems for corporate use, Microsoft offers to extend the support period for a fee. This way, companies and organizations can buy themselves an extra three years to upgrade to newer versions of Windows.
