Until today, we had access to the resolution. They’re going to repeat the whole process. We feel very happy and consider this as a victory and a step towards achieving your freedom.

“By repeating this process, we have the opportunity to again ask for a change to the measure (…) so that this process can be carried out, at least under house arrest,” he added.

Zamora was captured in the middle of last year at his home in the Guatemalan capital after a raid that lasted several hours.

In 1996, Zamora founded newspaperone of the country’s main investigative media outlets, which could not stay afloat after the capture of its founder.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the journalist allegedly received $38,461 to finance his media outlet, which did not regularly flow into the banking system.

Zamora’s trial, which human rights groups have classified as an “attack” on freedom of expression, comes in the midst of a bitter fight by the highest levels of government against prosecutors, judges, human rights activists and journalists who are fighting corruption and impunity.
