The incident is being investigated as hate crime because the suspect attacked them for being MuslimsLocal authorities reported this.
This Sunday, the Will County Sheriff’s Office reported that the attacker, identified as 71-year-old Joseph Chuba, had committed a crime against his residents the day before. This Sunday he was accused of first degree murderattempted first-degree murder, two counts of hate crime and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
“Detectives have determined that both victims of this brutal attack were targeted by the suspect because they were Muslim and because of the ongoing conflict between the Islamic Resistance Movement. (Hamas) and Israel“, the message says.
The attacker, questioned by investigators, made no statements about his involvement in the crime. ironbut there is enough evidence to convict him, so he has been arrested and is awaiting his first court appearance.
